Background: the Civic Action Leader program is an internship-scholarship cohort program that first-year students apply for each spring.  The program offers them a 3-year scholarship.  The students work 10-12 hours in the office and their roles focus on promoting civic engagement and service on campus and in the community through a variety of programs and events.  For example they run MLK Day and the Volunteer Fair.

  • Helped create the fall training schedule by getting feedback from current CALs on their experience last year and creating new activities to create an even better training that fully prepares new CALs for their role
  • Create handouts for professional development for CAL enhancement meetings
  • Participated in the selection process for new CALs by looking over applications, giving interviews, and being part of the group interview process
  • Create rubrics for CAL assessment to further clarify rating scales on end-of-the-year evaluations to provide consistency across the staff when rating students
